Indoor surf session followed by tapas

Fancy a cool experience on your next trip to Bordeaux? Then head to the Wave Surf Café. Located in the Galerie Tatry, this innovative bar is home to a most unexpected surf spot. Get over there with a few friends or loved ones and practise surfing on an artificial wave. At the entrance, you select a board suitable for your level and then enjoy 55 minutes of the most unlikely surfing. Ride the waves with three friends – the maximum number of participants at one time – on a simulator that looks like an infinity skateboard ramp. An instructor gives you a few safety instructions and teaches you about wave behaviour and the basic techniques of the sport. Lying on your bodyboard, you will soon experience incredible thrills and spills. One by one, everyone manages to tame the wave for a few unforgettable seconds. After your surf session, settle down in the mezzanine café overlooking the pool area where you can relax with a drink and graze on some tapas. If you plan to stay in Bordeaux for some time, you might want to sign up for the Wave Surf Academy and take things a step further. After a ten-session programme, you will be able to master some basic turns and embark on some more daring manoeuvres.

The city of 1,001 experiences

Besides surfing, Bordeaux has been reinventing itself and offers an unparalleled quality of life. In Chartrons, the city's trendiest district, soak up the gentle, peaceful vibe of Bordeaux. In the cool of the morning, stroll along cours Portal and rue Notre-Dame between its bistros and boutiques. On Thursday mornings, the organic market, one of the very first in France, will entice you with the aroma of summer fruits. Next up, head to the antique shops of Notre-Dame village and have a rummage around for that rare find. In 2016, the opening of the Cité du Vin amidst much media fanfare turned the spotlight on the history of Chartrons, a historic district synonymous with wine and trading. This temple to divine bottle will blow you away with its striking architecture. No doubt Sleeping Beauty, as Bordeaux used to be called, will give you a great experience whatever your tastes.
