Cambodian New Year
Published on
The Cambodian New Year takes place from the 13th to the 16th of April.
These three days of celebration are a Khmer festival held across the country to mark the end of the harvest period, before the onset of the rainy season. Every day is devoted to a specific celebration. The first, Moha Sangkran, is the day when the angels came down to earth, so lights are lit in houses and altars are set up around the city. The second day is devoted to Vanabot. Gifts are given and donations are made to the poor. On the third day, LeungSAKK , Buddha is celebrated by cleaning statues in his image with scented water, while young people are subject to a ritual where they wash their feet before receiving blessings.
